INSTALLATION NOTICE: We have verified lower stator temperatures and longer stator life with higher quality oil in the primary. We recommend using a high quality name brand oil for best results.

Battery condition is extremely important. No stator or regulator can work correctly with a bad or weak battery. Always fully charge your battery before performing any charging system tests or replacing parts. If there is any doubt, have the battery load tested or replaced.

Brand New Aftermarket Twin Cam 88 Softail 3-Phase Upgrade Kit

We love older Harleys at RMSTATOR, but we all know they are a bit antiquated. Engines from 1970-2005 used a single phase stator and extremely dated voltage regulator design. The single phase stator is VERY RPM dependent for output, producing little to no power below 2000RPM, and limited power overall. The OEM style SCR switched shunt type voltage regulator was inefficient and generated massive heat in use, along with poor grounding through the case frame mount. We decided to bring these bikes into the future by updating the charging system to a 3 phase stator and modern series voltage regulator for more power and increased reliability. The 3 phase stator design uses 3 coils that overlap output and are no longer severely RPM dependent, generating charging power from 1000RPM at idle on up to redline! The series type voltage regulator provides efficient and accurate voltage regulation while lowering stator winding temperatures for increased life. It comes in our billet aluminum CNC machined housing with custom powder-coated steel mounting bracket unique for each chassis, and a new wiring harness for direct connection to your battery.  Keep your older HD on the road forever with an RMSTATOR 3 phase upgrade!

This system has been designed and developed in house, and battle-tested on Shovelheads, Evolution Big Twin and Sportsters, and Twin Cams over tens of thousands of miles of road testing. You will not be disappointed!

Series Regulator:

SERIES regulators run much cooler than the Shunt and MOSFET voltage regulator rectifier and way much cooler than OEM parts.

Moreover, the regulator has our new machined billet aluminum casing which dissipate heat 33% better than standard molded casing.

Power only flows through the electrical components when the battery is charging.

Allows the stator to have lower current flowing when not used, extending its lifetime.

The regulator is easier to mount because it is smaller than the OEM one.

ABOUT THE SERIES VOLTAGE REGULATION TECHNOLOGY

RMSTATOR’s new SERIES voltage regulator brings better reliability and charging system performance. A SERIES regulator is a significant upgrade over typical shunt type voltage regulators.

A shunt regulator controls battery voltage by grounding the stator coils to dissipate current as heat, rather than sending it on to the battery. SERIES regulators control battery voltage by intermittently disconnecting stator coils from the regulator electronics, limiting current flow through the unit and on to the battery completely.

This results in lower regulator and stator temperatures, more accurate voltage regulation, and increased reliability of your charging system components.

Improved Capped Magneto Flywheel:

Introducing our newest Heavy Duty Flywheel Rotor For Harley Davidson Motorcycles.

Anyone who rides or repairs Harleys is probably familiar with the flywheel problems common to these machines. Most of these bikes will have at least one flywheel failure in their lifetime so far. Low quality epoxy was used on OEM flywheels to secure the magnets to the rotor body. Over time and many heat cycles, the epoxy fails allowing the magnets to come loose and contact the stator, potentially causing catastrophic damage.

For years, service shops & dealerships have offered low cost repairs for Harley Davidson flywheels to save the 400$+ OEM replacement. This sounds like a great idea at first, but there are some serious issues!

The common repair is using JB Weld© Marine Blue Epoxy to reattach the loose original magnets, or to install new ones. Epoxy fixes do repair flywheels in short term, if they are done correctly. However, this kind of repair can easily cause immediate problems, and impact long term reliability of your motorcycle.

Watch Evan, our head of engineering, explaining why you must not repair a flywheel.

A Heavy Duty Flywheel to the rescue!

New RMSTATOR heavy-duty flywheel rotors for Harley Davidson motorcycles are a well-priced solution to problems with the OEM flywheel, and an excellent alternative to all the mechanical troubles you can encounter with a repair.

Features

  • Built to OEM size
Fits precisely in your ride: install it and forget it.

  • Improved epoxy
Uses high temperature epoxy that is stronger than OEM, eliminating the possibility of magnet detachment.

  • High grade steel capping
Prevents harsh additives in motor oil from degrading the epoxy attaching the magnets. Though extremely unlikely, if a magnet did ever come loose, it would remain in the sleeve preventing contact with the stator.

  • Precise balancing
Eliminates crankshaft vibrations for longer engine longevity.

  • Shop with confidence
One year warranty. All products are tested.

Don't waste time with temporary solutions, and start fixing your ride like a pro!

Why cheap repairs won't work?

Quick stronger epoxy fixes do repair flywheels in short term. It might however impair long term performance and reliability of your ride.

Remaining OEM magnets:
Original magnets remaining can still come loose at any time.

Magnet alignment:
The alignment of magnets around the flywheel is critical for proper stator operation. Even very fine misalignment will reduce stator efficiency significantly.

Magnet spacing:
Excessive epoxy or incorrect magnet spacing around the flywheel can easily affect the flywheel balance. This can cause stator contact or even crankshaft damages.

Incorrect replacement magnets:
The magnetic field strength of new magnets MUST match the originals. Stator failure can occur quickly with stronger magnets and stator output can be decreased significantly using weaker magnets.

Wrong epoxy properties:
Epoxy that is not rated to permanently handle high temperatures and oil immersion can quickly cause a serious failure.

Oil contamination:
Wrong epoxy for the application can also contaminate the crankcase oil, damaging the motor.

All these reasons make us strongly recommend that you replace your broken flywheel with a new 400+ OEM one or our new heavy duty flywheel.

Installation

Before installing your Twin Cam 88 Softail 3-Phase Upgrade Kit

  • Replace any burned or corroded connectors on stator and regulator rectifier
  • Check and repair any melted wiring
  • Use hi-temp dielectric grease on all connectors

Our stator may use a different wire color code than your original.
All of the wires are installed in the correct order; please do not change any of the wiring configurations.
This stator is designed as a direct plug-in replacement and should be used as such.
When bolting stator in, always use locking compound.
If our stator includes a pickup coil, always make sure the air gap is correct upon installation; we suggest as close as possible no less than 0.010"".

INSTALLATION NOTICE: The Harley Davidson stator design runs in a very harsh high temperature environment under the primary cover. It is partially cooled by the primary chain lubricating oil. We have verified lower stator temperatures and longer stator life with higher quality oil in the primary. We recommend using a high quality name brand oil for best results.

Warning:

Risk of electric shock. Disconnect the battery before servicing.
Ensure proper installation by a qualified technician to avoid malfunction.
